Washi wallpaper should be applied according to normal methods used for standard wallpaper. As Washi is made from natural materials, the finished texture may vary slightly.
Base treatment
- Some substances arising from a mortar or plywood base may cause the wallpaper to discolor. Please be sure to apply sealant on such surfaces.
Glue
- The glue for washi should be at least as strong as that ordinarily used for vinyl cloth wallpaper, but used in slightly greater quantity.
- After gluing the paper, lay it in large loose folds to prevent fold marks. Do not place heavy objects on the folded paper.
- After the paper has been glued, leave it for about ten minutes before applying it to the wall.
Application
- Use a soft brush to spread the paper evenly on the wall. Do not use a metal spatula or other hard tools.
- Do not run a roller over joints with undue force.
- The wallpaper should be hung join to join, but if an overlapping edge must be cut off, use glue-free tape to keep the edge from sticking to the surface.
- To finish, use a well-wrung damp sponge to gently wipe away any excess glue.
